When Amtrak needs switching done or needs to send equipment for repair they will call in an extra crew to handle it and will usually call it Amtrak Portland Extra in this area. The trains are called extras when they have to run outside of a passenger schedule. It's a Brunswick Extra when they need to send equipment to Brunswick for the first train of the day, or bring it back at the end of the day, and may show on the Amtrak sites with a number between 676 and 679.
